Panico's wrecking 'funky' Key West

Editor, The Citizen:

This city has a crisis situation, and, it has been caused by Virginia Panico.
The recent polarization which has taken a death grip on Key West is due to her manipulation of the City Commission. Anything she proposes, Mayor Richard Heyman and Jimmy Weekley tag along. Sally Lewis doesn't seem to have the strength of her convicions enough to stand up to them. Harry Powell is the man with sense and guts, arguing and voting on issues with his constituents interests at heart.
First, Panico forced the merchants on Duval to take their merchandise into their stores. Naturally, they resented the mobil vendors being able to have merchandise on the street, when they could not.
With the merchants upset with mobil vendors, it was easy for Panico to get the vendors off of Duval and Front streets.
In the meantime Panico wants to sell out the Sunset Celetration to a profiteer.
Street people and boat people have also been the target of her wrath as the police write tickets at Mallory Dock and Simonton Beach. Who does Panico think will wash dishes, make beds, and do construction work when she drives this work force out of town?
She is determined to "clean-up" this funky little town to the point where it won't have any flavor left.
Tourists don't come to Key West to mingle with coat-and-tie executives or stuffed-shirt Chamber of Commerce board of directors. They come to Key West to rub elbows with "real people."
Concerned Key Westers must attend commission meetings and speak out on these issues while there is still a chance to save the unique, down to earth feeling that makes Key West a popular tourist attraction.
